 Using magnesium alloy castings instead of aluminum alloy castings can reduce the weight of the workpiece by 25-30% under the condition of equal strength. Magnesium alloys, like aluminum alloys, can be divided into two major categories: deformed (press-working) magnesium alloys and cast magnesium alloys according to the processing method. 


In recent years, with the development of die-casting technology, die-casting magnesium alloy has become the main field of magnesium alloy application. In addition, the use of magnesium alloy as a sacrificial anode has also been greatly developed.
 

Magnesium is a light metal. Pure metallic magnesium is silver-white, which is easily oxidized in the air, forming a thin oxide film, which can prevent further oxidation.
 

Magnesium has high chemical activity, and it is difficult to encounter pure magnesium ore in nature. It exists as chloride in seawater, containing about 0.14%, and in the crust as carnallite, magnesite, dolomite and some other compounds, and the content reaches 2.35%.
