Magnesium alloys AZ31b

Magnesium alloys can be divided into two categories according to the manufacturing process: wrought magnesium alloys and cast magnesium alloys.
The addition of Al and Zn elements to pure magnesium can improve the mechanical properties and processing properties of the alloy. Within a certain range, the tensile strength of the alloy increases with the increase of Al (or Zn) content, and the Zn Al content is about 3% (mass). When the alloy elongation reaches the highest value, when the Al Zn content exceeds 3% (mass), the β phase is easily precipitated in the casting structure, which reduces the processing performance of the alloy.

The tensile strength of AZ31B magnesium alloy is 245-274.4MPa, the strength performance is relatively low in practical magnesium alloys, and the strength cannot be improved by heat treatment, but its forgeability is good for application

AZ31B magnesium alloy application

The wrought magnesium alloy AZ31B has high vibration resistance and heat absorption properties, so it is an ideal material for manufacturing aircraft wheel hubs.

Magnesium alloy AZ31B is very stable in gasoline, kerosene and lubricating oil, and is suitable for making engine gear casings, oil pumps and oil pipes. It is also used to make rocker arms and hatches due to its small inertial force during rotation and reciprocation. and moving parts such as rudder surfaces. Civil and military aircraft, especially bombers, widely use magnesium alloy products.

The fuselage part of the famous American B-52 bomber uses 635 kg of magnesium alloy sheets, 90 kg of extrusions, and more than 200 kg of castings. Magnesium alloys are also used for some components on missiles and satellites. For example, the instrument compartment, tail compartment and engine bracket of China's "Hongqi" surface-to-air missile all use magnesium alloys.

AZ31B magnesium alloy is also widely used in automobiles. Such as clutch housing, valve cover, gearbox cylinder head, air conditioner housing, etc. Steering wheel, steering bracket, brake bracket, etc.

Magnesium alloys are used on the steering wheel and seats in order to improve shock absorption and reduce weight after the car is hit.

According to relevant research, 60% of the fuel used by a car is consumed by the car's own weight. For every 10% reduction in the car's own weight, its fuel efficiency can be improved by more than 5%; Saving 1 L of fuel can reduce CO2 emissions by 2.5 g and annual emissions by more than 30%. Therefore, reducing the weight of automobiles has a great impact on the environment and energy, and the lightening of automobiles has become an inevitable trend.
